Terrick Nar looks at the members of Kanli as they gather around the Holoterminal on Zhan Maklaen's BT-7 Thunderclap. Terrick stops for a moment before he presses run program. A map of the old station on Ilum comes up, which causes Episiasta to look away a moment. The white haired Echani turned Jedi gestures to the screen.
"Many people have heard the story of the sacking of Coruscant but the telling usually begins with the meeting an Alderaan. Very few people ask about how it was the Empire could move an entire fleet straight into the galactic core unnoticed. That is our story, the story of Battlegroup Kanli," Terrick relates.
He continues, "Kanli station was a listening post on the distant planet of Ilum. As conflicts seemed to end, Jedi brought their padawans on pilgrimages to the distant world. After breaking the blockade, smugglers ran supplies to the mostly ignored planet. Prosperity Squad, a group of Republic soldiers, were stationed there to secure and operate the station. The place was considered a low priority target for the enemy."
Flashes of light erupt on the holo, Imperial vessels dropping out of hyperspace above Kanli station. Terrick continues, "What we did not know was that the Emperor and Darth Jadus positioned their spies in the station. Just as the strike squadron dropped out of hyperspace, Imperial operatives and assassins eliminated all officers, smuggler captains and Jedi masters on the station. They then sabotaged the sensor arrays so that no warning could be sent."
As Terrick says this, the Imperial frigates begin bombing the sensor arrays, destroying them. Red dots indicate the points of assassinations in and around Kanli Station. Imperial landing shuttles drop and soldiers begin to depart.
"The battle was over before it had begun.
"Victory wasn't enough for the Imperial forces. They began hunting down the survivors, capturing and torturing them for their amusement," Terrick touches the scars on his face as he continues, "Their next objective was the complete extermination of Kanli personnel. Those of us that escaped did so by will of the Force and a fear of death. Many of the trooper veterans in the room began a sweep of the station rescuing padawans and smugglers. We filed onto Borea Ahja's current vessel to escape."
Ahja's XS freighter blasts off amidst heavy fire on the reenactment. Then the station is detonated in orbit. There is no indication of any of the operatives, Sith or soldiers inside being pulled out first.
Terrick clears the screen. He walks among the members, old and new, looking each one of them in the eye, "The survivors decided that no matter what happens on Alderaan and Coruscant, the crimes of the Empire could not go unnoticed. We agreed that we would form a shadow operation, a battlegroup, that would operate outside of normal chains of command in order to put a stop to the war. At least we would do everything in our power to drive the Empire back into deep space. At best, we would bring the collapse of their society.
"In honor of the place that spawned us, we call ourselves Battlegroup Kanli. We do not want revenge. We are not here for a vendetta. We seek retribution on the Empire for its continued crimes against the galaxy.
We will make right all that their wrongs. And that is why we fight as one."
